Fine Art Logistics

Handling fine art is a highly specialised field involving many different areas of expertise. Fine art logistics is the term used to cover all these areas – from packing, transport and storage to conservation, framing and installation.

Often, our customers make use of a combination of these services, for the organisation of an exhibition, for instance. And sometimes we assist with just one very specific aspect, such as assessing the condition of a work of art. Whatever your needs, our fine art logistics services can provide the right experts and advanced technology for the assignment.

By handing over the logistics to John Nurminen Prima, not only do you benefit from total cost savings, but you also save on the time and effort your organisation would otherwise spend on making complex arrangements.

By road

All the vehicles in our modern, comfortable fleet have climate control and air suspension, and are specially designed for art transportation. They are equipped with GPS and can be accompanied by up to 2 couriers, at your request.

We can also provide special transportation, such as a low loader or crane, for larger or more specific projects. We handle communications with security, emergency services and public transport organisations, and can even arrange for roads to be closed or tram power lines shut down, if necessary.

By air

Air transport includes transportation to and from the airport, supervision of pallet construction and courier supervision. In principle, objects with a height of up to 3 m can be transported by air, although the maximum height depends on the destination.

Art Lines

We operate a scheduled art transport service by road between the major art cities of Europe, under the name of Art Lines. Transporting several items together on regular routes cuts the cost drastically, while customers are assured of John Nurminen Prima’s secure and expert handling.

Insurance

Insurance is an essential part of the transport arrangements. We can arrange insurance for transport, storage and exhibitions. The amount of the insurance premium will depend to a large extent on the value of the art work.

Courier Services

In the case of valuable works of art, you may want them to be accompanied by a courier during transport. In fact, the presence of a courier is often stipulated in agreements about the loan of art works.

A courier’s job entails travelling with the work of art (whether by road or air), ensuring its safe handling in transit and taking care of the relevant documentation. A courier is also fully briefed in the particular installing specifications for the work of art, should that be required.

We make all the necessary travel arrangements for the courier, and our professional conservators can act as couriers, if you wish.

Security

Stringent safety regulations are absolutely vital in handling valuable works of art. We can offer you independent and expert advice on security matters based on our security services portfolio.

Our services include:

  • carrying out safety and security audits
  • assessing museum facility reports and loan applications
  • instructing security service staff on specialised art matters
  • ensuring safe packing/unpacking
  • taking account of climatic factors in installation
